Christmas and Hanukkah are the top holidays to give a gift basket of flowers, according to the Society of American Florists. However, Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day are close runners-up. Easter and Thanksgiving are other occasions when arrangements are common. Receiving an unexpected floral gift is one of the most joyous experiences because it shows forethought, creativity and kindness.

There are many different approaches to selecting the right arrangement, however. There are numerous occasions to buy flowers, the most obvious being Valentine’s Day and Birthdays. Never underestimate the power of an unexpected delivery! To really impress someone, send an arrangement to acknowledge a job promotion or to express sympathy during a difficult time. For family members, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving and Easter are popular times too. It’s customary to send flowers to newlyweds to wish them well. Of course, there are also flower faux pas to be aware of. In Asian culture, white blooms are given only during mournful and unhappy occasions. In the US, it’s customary to send the flowers in arrangements of one dozen, but in some European countries an even number is considered inappropriate. Also, Asians have superstitions about receiving four blooms (which signifies “death”) and many countries are superstitious about the number thirteen.

If you are planning to send flowers to your mate, then you will want to choose just the right ones. While each flower has its own meaning, do not feel limited to this type of arrangement. Rather, create a message that says something about your loved one. Perhaps you will put together a fiery combination to match her fiery personality or you’ll want a rare, exotic bouquet to match your rare love. Is your lover free-spirited or traditional? What is her favorite color or variety of flower? The best bouquets of flowers show that you truly know your partner. Instead of just flowers, why not send a themed gift basket? A flower and chocolate one would be a great choice. Or one with special teas, coffee and a personal mug.

Flowers in gift baskets is a great gift for the person who has everything. Gift baskets have become very popular and are available in many themes, including cookies, golfers, body and bath, spa, muffins, chocolate candy, cheese and wine, new baby items, childrens’ items and anything else you can think of. A gift basket can be a very personal gift or a completely generic one depending on who you are sending it to and what you put in it. Gift baskets make a special gift for that someone who has everything. Imagine the look of pleasure someone will get when they realize that you took the time to pick out something special for them and had it delivered to their door. A win/win for everyone.
