Sweet Or Savory?
Many companies will have some kind of policy connected to corporate gift giving. Some will go the route of giving only to executives or upper management, while others will want to reward everyone including those at grass roots level.
Of course, if it is the lower echelons that are going to be rewarded, then this usually means that there are many more of them, hence the budget can go a little out of control. But giving gifts on this level need not be very expensive.
Gift baskets containing cookies or cup cakes are great ways of saying thanks for some good work. This holds true for company employees or those employees of the company that is being gifted. Company logos iced onto the cookies make sure that the name and corporate colors are literally kept on the lips of the employees, no matter which camp they come from.
Pens, mugs, key rings and office paraphernalia are all kinds of gifts that can be given under the corporate gifting program. Many workers appreciate something small but useful and these kinds of gifts are just that. If they have the company phone number and contacts printed on them, then all the better.
One company had the bright idea of sending out a cake, with the company logo on, to all their customers typing pools and sales offices. Cheesecake can be substituted in a veritable wheel of different flavors. As long as there are people with a sweet tooth, this type of gift will always be welcome.
For the higher echelons, some time and care should be taken in choosing the perfect gift to give. Choosing something inappropriate would be devastating for the giver since their reputation will be on the line here. Another aspect of this is that gifts should never be given when contracts are being tendered for. This could lead the company into thinking that this is some kind of bribe and this is also not the right image to promote at any time without exception.
For those who want to do some extra research, try to find out what the MD, or his subordinates like to do in their spare time. Are they avid golfers or tennis players, or do they like the country style life where they go off to the mountains for the weekends?
If it is golf that they like, and a lot of company executives conduct a lot of business on these rounds of golf, then perhaps something with a golfing motif would be a nice surprise for them. Mantle clocks or desk clocks in a shape of something golf oriented would look great for the sleek and stylish office. Personalizing the gift with the recipient’s initials adds a touch of style and grace to the piece. With this style of gift it is of the utmost importance that no company logo is added as this could make it look cheap or commercial.
Of course, everyone likes and appreciates a delicious gift basket containing all things unusual. But corporate gifts could contain whole smoked turkeys or a wonderfully prepared ham. These styles of baskets are very welcome around the holiday celebrations since they are out of the normal routine for most people.
This would naturally take a little extra research when it comes to the religion of the recipient but sending a turkey is probably the safest route to take. Sides of smoked salmon also fit into this category and would be even better teamed up with the appropriate bottle of wine or two.
Some baskets contain all the gourmet foods that one would expect someone on the higher end of the corporate ladder would appreciate. Fine wines and wonderfully exotic cheeses added to some other delectable goodies, will always be acceptable no matter what the occasion. Even several brands of unusual coffee, for the non drinkers, make a change from the normal routine of giving a gift basket as a corporate gifts. Chocolate and out of the ordinary nuts like cashews or honey roasted nuts are also a good bet for this style of gift.
For the executive who seems to have everything, then the choice becomes more difficult. But remember that this is supposed to show gratitude or appreciation and the gift, though somewhat important, is not as earth shatteringly significant as the thought behind the gift. Who wouldn’t like to receive a set of perfect crystal wine glasses to add to their collection? Champagne, whether vintage or not, will also add a touch of extra class to the gift and this is always useful for high days and holidays. Try to match the glasses to the variety of wine to show that the company knows what it is doing. For example, for champagne, send flutes, for red wine, send the larger glasses that enable the drinker to get the full ambience of the bouquet etc.
In this day of equality, the executive is equally likely to be a woman. So what does a highly paid highly placed lady executive want as a gift? Well, most of the gifts already discussed would be more than suitable. However, she may not find the time to pamper herself as much as she should. Gift baskets that include all kinds of lotions and potions to pamper and smooth out travel weary skin must be a favorite for her. Scented candles and bath oils, perhaps some massage oils with a ‘how to’ manual, plus a fluffy dressing gown – with or without her initials embroidered on, makes a lovely gift. Try tucking in a weekend break for two and this makes for an exceptional corporate gift par excellence!
For those who are completely stuck, or gift giving challenged, gift vouchers are the next best thing. The executive or manager would love to get a gift that they can spend on themselves and at their leisure. Although this may appear to be the easy way out, it certainly ensures the executive of getting exactly the right gift at the right time.
