“Coffee break on a lava bed” Teamroman’s photos around Petrohue, Chile

Teamroman’s travel blog entry: “Our Comarca tour guide Isabel picked us up at 9 en punto (on the dot) for our excursion to Volcan Osorno. There were two other Americans on board, a mother and daughter from Colorado. The daughter is nearing the end of her semester at University of Vina del Mar and the mother was down for a visit. We drove past Ensenada towards the dormant volcano. We were soon enveloped in a huge cloud and could barely see 3 feet in front of us. This volcano is about 2000 meters (nothing to the Colorado folks) but impressive to us. They offer skiing here in the winter. The driver Enrique soon dropped us off at the trail El Solitario, 6 km. It was muddy at first but soon the volcanic rock formed a gravel like path. We stopped when we reached the lavabed for coffee and cookies. This was James’ favorite moment of the day. The hike was fairly level and although I wished we had invested in real hiking boots (for the sake of our ankles) we managed just fine. We got to the main road and followed it to the Petrohue river, which we could hear from a long way off. There were some impressive waterfalls (Saltos). We hopped in the van and then went to Lago Todos Los Santos named this way because it was discovered around All Saints Day. We had our lunch there, walked around the lake where James
